Muddy Huts and Bikes
While browsing the flexcar special deals pages, i found a link to something called sustainable energy in motion bike tours. Curiosity pulled, I followed.
From their site:
We look for places that are doing something unique and inspiring to better the world. In the past we have visited alternative schools, private organic farms, intentional eco-communities, innovative foodbank, and incredibly beautiful campgrounds. You can also view a list of past and potential hosts for this year.
Our tours tend to have some focus on sustainable economics. You are as likely to hear about radical simplicity as you are about the triple bottom line (people, planet, profit). Many of our hosts are working to de-centralize our current corporate crookery into a more just, local living community economical system that functions in sync with the planet. Simply put, many eco-friendly Main Streets rather than a crooked Wall Street — but also looking further, beyond a society based on competition and one based on co-operation.
The service projects we do vary greatly and depend on the needs of the host. In some cases, we may be building, in others building green houses, or providing other assistance, as needed. We try to work with our hosts to find service projects where clear results are visible by the end of the project — so when you leave, you see what you’ve accomplished.
All of our hosts are on some level applying principles of radical simplicity, deep ecology, green building, organic farming and seeking ways to live more harmoniously with the planet. They are usually deeply involved in the local communities where they live.
